  1. Hi Lynne, Before England came into being, the country was divided into various kingdoms. The kingdom of Wessex or Kingdom of the West Saxons was divided into hundred areas or hundreds. This division of the kingdom dates from the reign of King Athelstan (924-927) Seven of the hundred divisions can be found in Cornwall and were named after the chief manor in the area. The main manor in this central region of Cornwall was Pawton or Powder manor. So Ewe is in the Deanery (under the jurisdiction of the Dean) and Hundred of Powder. πŸ™‚
