Golden Dome

The dome of St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia, gilded with 100 kilograms of gold. During World War II it was painted over in gray to avoid attracting attention from enemy aircraft.  During the Soviet era it was stripped of its religious trappings and turned into the Anti-religious Museum.
